Best Selling Road Shoes by Model – Winter 2018

At the close of each season, we like to pause and take a look at what exactly happened over the preceding three months. Part of that reflection includes quantifying which shoe models were the most popular. Now, we know that many of you are just as curious as us about which models had the highest sales, so we want to share our findings with you. Below you will find the top twenty-five men’s and women’s road shoe models for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2017.

For the men’s list, HOKA proved to be the dominant brand with three of the top five models and six of the top twenty-five. ASICS and Nike were not far off that, both boasting four models in the top twenty-five. A good number of shoes on this list are models we’d expect to see, with long-standing favorites such as the Saucony Kinvara 8 and the Brooks Ghost 10 taking up the sixth and seventh spots respectively, but there are also some rising stars, like the Altra Escalante at number five and the Altra Torin 3.0 at number thirteen, which show how non-traditional running shoes are making their mark. As is generally the case, the men’s list trends towards performance, with a number of performance trainers, including the Nike Zoom Fly as the top shoe of the quarter, and even a racing flat, the New Balance 1400 v5, making the list.

HOKA proved even more impressive on the women’s list, taking the top three spots and putting six in the top fifteen. Not far behind, ASICS had six of the top twenty-five models while Brooks put up five. With so few spots left, the final count shows that only six brands are represented on the women’s list—the final three being Nike (four models), Saucony (three models), and adidas (one model). By comparison, the men’s list featured shoes from those same six brands as well as three additional ones: Altra, Mizuno, and New Balance. As usual, this season’s women’s list trends towards daily trainers as opposed to performance models. Certain lightweight trainers, —the Nike Zoom Fly at number four and the Saucony Kinvara 8 at number eight—were strong, but the overwhelming majority of models are focused on getting in those daily runs.

Below are the top twenty-five best selling* road shoe models for the fourth quarter of 2017.
